Unlike many other professions, acting affords you the opportunity to prove your talents in an audition before you land the role. Although the audition is not the real act, your most important objective is to show to the casting directors that you are a valuable and useful asset to their project. Here are three important tips to help you land your next role:
It is not enough to read everything about the character, you must become the character. Go to that audition room convinced that you are the natural assumption of the role you are auditioning for. If your character is wicked, don’t think you are wicked, be wicked!
It is important to take a moment to familiarise yourself with the objects on the stage before you begin your act. Use the stage to further express your character if you must. Spread out, jump, run! Whatever you need to do to express your character in the best way you can – do it!
There is only one way to be unique in your act, and that is to be original. Do not try to do it like anyone else. The casting directors will know and quickly dismiss your abilities. They are always looking for something they have not seen before. That is YOU! Don’t be afraid to give a piece of yourself to them.
These cues will give you a headstart in making a remarkable impression on your next audition. But it takes more than having the talent to act, you must develop greater skills to become an exceptional actor. Do you have what it takes to be exceptional? Develop the skills you may require by joining the Del-York Creative Academy.
