Ever watched a movie and you felt like you were in it. From the sequence of each scene to the high-definition picture quality, everything just gets real to you from the couch or cinema.
That’s the power of Cinematography.
What makes a Cinematographer sought after is the ability to use various shots to tell a story. A cinematic story features the creation of motion pictures of high quality. This goes beyond the crisp and picturesque feel and touches other key video features such as Flashbacks, Chapters, Colour Grading, Lighting, Through Characters, and many other post production aspects that make for picture-perfect viewing experience.
Achieving this is no easy feat.
At Del-York Creative Academy, we have cooked up some interesting tricks and hacks to create a cinematic story from any digital equipment (even your smartphone). Get your pen and paper ready and scroll down with us:
Use the Rule of Thirds
This refers to when you mentally divide your frame into thirds horizontally and vertically and you place the subject of your shot around the areas of intersection. With the Rule of Thirds, you create catchier objects that keep users intrigued as they view your work.
Use SFX
Adding Sound Effects (SFX) are elements of intrigue and suspense in your clip. Asides projecting the mood around the atmosphere being captured, it also helps in shaping the character’s emotional response, making for an enjoyable story that keeps you glued to “The End”.
Always use your equipment
No matter the kind of recording, your lighting equipment needs to constantly be in place in order to project the view of your camera and brighten any blurry side of your shot.
