250 students from over 10 countries, gathered together with one purpose: “To Change the African Narrative”; they came, they saw and on the 8th of June 2019, they graduated.
The Del-York Creative Academy held its 2019 graduation ceremony at the African Ballroom, Lagos Continental Hotel at which the Academy conferred certificates on all the graduates, in recognition of their outstanding contributions in their respective fields. The event also featured a screening of film and media productions done by the students as part of their final projects during the duration of the Academy. The theme ‘Change the African Narrative’, defines the caliber and mindset of this year’s graduates and the vision DCA has for the African Film and Media Industry, which is using the power of the media to rewrite the narrative about the African continent, reflecting a more positive image of our deeply rooted culture.
In his commencement address, the founder and chairman of the Academy, Linus Idahosa congratulated the students and told them that the graduation was the culmination of a long and challenging but ultimately rewarding journey. “You have studied in a unique globalized ecosystem where talent and creativity are nurtured and you have become empowered with the skills and attributes you need to be the next generation of global leaders who will make the impossible possible.” The main Sponsor of the program, Chief Diana Chen, CEO of CIG Motors was also present at the ceremony; addressing the audience she said, “I have to say that it is one of the greatest honours of my life to be able to address this gathering here today. I want to thank Linus Idahosa for his outstanding leadership, spearheading this program and bringing each and every one of us here together. To all the members of the Del-York Creative Family, and most of all, congratulations to all of you graduating today — the Class of 2019. You’re graduating into an improving job market. You’re living in a time when platforms like this put the world at your fingertips. Your generation is uniquely poised for success unlike any generation of students that came before you. So, let your name not die on this stage, but go out there and take on the world, dream big and change the narrative”
The highlight of the night was the announcement of the best graduating student Olivia Chidera Orji who was awarded a brand new GA3S GAC car.
