FIVE IMPORTANT STAGES OF FILM PRODUCTION.

Film production, as the name suggests, is the activity of producing films. The entire process of making a movie is what is referred to as film production,from birthing the idea and writing the script, to financial funding, to hiring the film crew, to location scouting, editing and distribution.

Film production is a lot of times lengthy and could take years to complete as it is a multi-step process. The process of film production involves five major stages; the development stage, the pre-production stage, the production stage, the post production stage and the distribution stage.

1. The development stage; this is the first step in film production. This process includes coming up with the story, drafting the script, sorting out logistics and budget of the filmmaking process. This stage is the foundation of any film production hence it is not done in a rush. The development stage could take years to complete depending on the type of film.
2. The pre-production stage; in this stage, the planning of your film shoot commences.  Here the roles of each crew member is defined; director of photography, assistant directors, costume designers, unit production manager etc.Each person is assigned a duty and must properly execute in the director’s vision. All that involves script, location and finance is finalized in this stage.
3.  The production stage; the production stage is where the shooting begins. When the first and second stage is properly coordinated and executed right, production is made easy. At the production stage, actors shoot their scenes after days of rehearsals while crew members ensure that every scene is on time so the production runs well.
4. The post-production stage; once production ends, post-production begins. Here the audio and visual materials are cut together to create the film. This stage encompases colour correction, sound editing, animation and visual effects.
5. The distribution stage; the final stage of film production is distribution. A film is only distributed when the movie has been completely edited and ready for viewing.
