WHAT MAKES A GOOD SCREENWRITER.

Would you agree that a lot of times, people get confused about who a screenwriter and a scriptwriter is? Do not fret, we’re just about to clear up that confusion.

Screenwriters are people who write the script formats for use in film, TV, and theatre, and these scripts are generally referred to as “screenplays”. Simply put, a screenwriter is a person who writes a screenplay. 

The art of screenwriting can be taken as a professional career and even though it requires good storytelling abilities and imagination, constant practice with an addition of educational training contributes to a screenwriter’s success.

Here are a few things that make a good screenwriter;

• Creativity: creativity is one of the most important skills needed to build a successful career in screenwriting. Your creativity is what helps you come up with original content and tell dynamic stories that connect with your audience.
• Open-mindedness and versatility: a versatile screenwriter knows how to form and share perspectives that transcend various beliefs free of judgment and prejudice. The ability to stay open-minded as a screenwriter will go a long way in your delivery.
• Emotional intelligence: the ability to show empathy and having a strong sense of social awareness is one skill that enables a screenwriter to recognize influencing emotions and how they are managed. The combination of creativity and emotional intelligence in a screenwriter is an extraordinary combo.
• Resourcefulness: a good screenwriter must be highly resourceful, and should know how to apply a fresh take on an existing or well-established idea to catch the audience’s attention. Good screenwriters are inspired and self-motivated enough to build vital concepts from scratch.
• Collaborative spirit; a good screenwriter knows that a great story is formed by equally just listening to others share ideas and expand their knowledge. Good screenwriters love to listen to new ideas and accelerate and broaden their scope.

The list is inexhaustible as a lot of things contribute to what makes a good screenwriter.  It is said every story has been told before, what matters is how you tell yours.
