Great animators always start with a dream – which you already do. The inspiration or passion to not only conceive a story but to bring imagination into limitless possibilities is the power behind all of the greatest animations you have seen.
How do you take this, a step further, from inspiration, passion and imagination to actually producing great animations? Here are 4 paths that great animators have taken:
Being creative most times has nothing to do with creating something new. Sometimes, it is just a unique angle to something familiar that no one else could have thought of, if not you. Always be that person searching for new angles or something that makes it distinctly you in every story, idea or animation.
A great marker to improvement in animation is the ability to finetune your attention to details to the utmost accuracy possible. You might think no one notices the small difference. Sometimes, this is true. But it is the surest way of setting yourself apart. Even though people cannot pinpoint what it is, they always appreciate a work excellently done.
A constant struggle with being an animator is that you will never know everything. Success then depends on the desire to learn new things, as well as keeping at every task, no matter how difficult, until you achieve your goal.
Team Work
It takes a team to create great animation. Therefore, a very vital skill to learn is the ability to work in a team. A greater skill to learn would be the ability to sell your ideas to a team and get them to work with you. But the greatest ability to master in animation is building the ideal team spirit for your story.
