At precisely 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 5th, 2024, in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria, Del-York Creative Academy (DCA) opened its curtains to commence the groundbreaking celebration of the March 2024 cohort’s graduation ceremony.
With sturdy bricks of creativity and fueled by the blazing heat of innovation and hard work, DCA has erected the formidable walls of Africa’s premier and most renowned creative academy.
Today, as a testament to our commitment, we proudly churn out certified filmmakers, cinematographers, actors, directors, and every talent indispensable to the creative industry.
For six weeks, we’ve delved deep into the intricacies of storytelling, creativity, projection, and acting with unwavering intensity. This journey has been nothing short of transformative for every graduating student. Here, we don’t merely cultivate talent; we mold individuals into trailblazing creatives who are not only unstoppable but also prepared to thrive on the global stage.
Guided, coached, and educated by internationally acclaimed instructors, our students benefit from mentors who possess not only a wealth of experience but also the exposure and insights necessary for comprehensive preparation in both the art and business of filmmaking. As a result, our graduates can proudly assert their readiness for both theoretical understanding and practical application in the face of any creative challenge that lies ahead.
In the moment of action, the students erupted in cheers as they witnessed their performances grace the showcase screen. They watched intently as their monologues echoed through the room, and their collaborative projects unfolded before their eyes.
“Mira,” showcased the story of a young girl grappling with the harsh realities of early child marriage prevalent in the northern region—a narrative that often truncates countless dreams.
On the other hand, “The Executioner,” delved into the gripping tale of a hitman tasked with the unthinkable challenge of executing his closest friend, presenting a compelling exploration of loyalty and morality.
Each film project was met with resounding applause, a testament to the dedication and growth exhibited by our graduates throughout their journey at DCA.
Mr. Chinedu Omorie, the esteemed lead instructor at DCA, took the stage. A recipient of the Director Award at the UK Nollywood Film Festival 2020 and the Best Series accolade at the Los Angeles Film Awards.
With a voice filled with pride and encouragement, he acknowledged the academy’s unwavering commitment to the student’s development, describing DCA as a “well of gems”.
“Now that you have it,” he declared, “go out and do exploits! The world awaits you.”
Cut into the scene where the students eagerly received their Diploma certificates accredited by the Nigeria Board of Technical Education, clutching them with pride as they posed for pictures with friends and family. Satisfactory remarks filled the air, a testament to their investment in themselves and the unwavering support of their loved ones. These certificates symbolized not only their experiences but also served as keys unlocking the doors to their next-level journey.
