The Del-York Creative Academy’s (DCA) March 2024 cohort has just concluded, leaving a trail of budding storytellers in its wake. Among their creations, one project has ignited the eyes of filmmaking experts: “Mira.” This powerful piece delves into the brutal reality of early child marriage, a societal plague that steals the futures of countless young girls in Northern Nigeria.
“Mira” isn’t just another story; it’s a special narrative of the dreams of a vibrant 15-year-old girl. Unlike the traditional path laid out for girls in her region – a path bound by early marriage for political gain, wealth expansion, and societal expectations – Mira yearns to become a Pediatrician. But will the fire of her passion be enough to shield her from the clutches of this deeply rooted custom?
