Straight from the city of Los Angeles the entertainment capital of the world, The Del-York Creative Academy received its faculty of lecturers of global renown as they touched down at the Murtala Mohammed International airport in Lagos for the DCA 2021 in-campus program.
The group was received by the DCA team at the airport in a very warm and convivial atmosphere, in what was an unscripted demonstration reminiscent of the joy of reconnecting with long lost relatives; a reunion delayed by the COVID-19 global travel restrictions which resulted in the inability to hold the DCA program in 2020 after a successful program in 2019.
The faculty will be in Nigeria for the next few weeks, providing intensive training to students in the DCA program in an atmosphere of fun and learning which promises to be an impactful experience for the current student cohort.
Speaking on the plans of the DCA 2021 Training programme, DCA President, Linus Idahosa reiterated that the future of the global creative industry was in Africa, and it was important for the continent to build up its capacity and put in place the critical infrastructure to support the industry.
He opined “Africa sits on the cusp of a new wave of prosperity if only it is able to get its act together and make the sacrifice in capacity building and investing in the right kind of infrastructure to support the industry. The DCA is poised to play a lead role in delivering on that plan and the current program being undertaken in conjunction with our team of lecturers from the US is a precursor to the massive explosion the African creative industry ecosystem will soon experience.”
Speaking further, he said “DCA the foremost capacity building institution in Africa for the creative industry has taken on the mantle and unique responsibility to democratize the process of innovation for African creatives while leveraging opportunities for collective transformation for the betterment of the continent’s creative industry ecosystem. With over 5,000 active talents in its prestigious alumni database, the Academy has expanded its scope in 2021 with a focus on training young and aspiring professionals the latest tricks of the trade.”
The current DCA in-campus program will run till late December and a new session will resume in early 2022.
